I always love going on little outings with the family on Mother's Day, and because it's "my" day I get to pick what we do! Since our last trip to the beach was ruined by traffic, I wanted to try again. This trip was almost ruined by seaweed, rain, and stinging Portuguese man-o-wars, but we persevered and had a great time. We slept in, and everyone worked together and made me breakfast. They really wanted to serve me breakfast in bed, but there was pancakes and syrup, and that could have been a mess, so we ate at the table. After we cleaned up, we headed to the beach. When we got there, there was a little girl who had just been stung on the chest by a Portuguese man-o-war, and she was screaming bloody murder! We tried to down play it to the girls, but I was a little terrified myself! Once we got to the water we realized that there was a major seaweed situation. We have been down there when there was a lot of seaweed, but this was ridiculous. There was probably about 20 feet of seaweed before you got to the water, then there was a ton of seaweed in the water. We stayed away from the water at first, and the girls were whining and grumpy about it. Finally, we gave in and went in the water. They, of course, had a blast. I think Adilyn said a million times, "This is the best Mother's Day, ever!" Brooke was a little chilly, but she still had fun when Cory and I "jumped' her over the waves. There were sprinkles of rain every now and then, but we still had a really fun time! I love the simple fun of the beach, even with venomous sea life, extreme seaweed, and chilly misty weather.
