It has been our tradition to have a fun "end of summer week" every year before I went back to work. Mom would come down, and I would work in my room while she entertained the kiddos. This year was a little different...no room to work in! :) So,with no work that had to be done, it was all fun. We thought that we might do something "big" like go to Galveston or go to a water park, but I started feeling uninspired to work that hard for our outings. So, we laid low and stayed closer to the house. One morning we showed Mom our "fun can", and the girls picked out a paper that said to make mudpies. Adilyn said that it didn't sound like much fun, but boy, was she wrong! We went and got some dirt, a few styrofoam bowls, some watering cans...and it was seriously a couple hours of fun. I love when the kids have so much fun with simple things. After we made some mudpie stew, the girls played in the slip 'n slide for a while. Another day we went to the Aquarium to eat and play on the rides. The girls loved the ferris wheel and carousel, as always! I was really surprised when Adilyn wanted to go on one of the rides for big kids. It was one of those rides that take you up high and drop you down. When we first got there, I asked her if she wanted to ride it. She asked if she was big enough, and I told her that I thought she was. She got a little nervous, so I told her that she didn't have to go, but she could if she wanted to. She said, "I think that I chose not to ride." I was fine with that, but a little while later she changed her mind and wanted to try it. As we waited in line, I was sure she would be anxious or decide that she didn't want to ride it, but she didn't! We got all strapped in, and still, no signs of nervousness. I was still unsure about what would happen when the ride got started. She loved it! I couldn't believe it! You never know how kids are going to react to things. She can be so timid with certain things, and then so brave with other things. Anyway, I sure hope that she loves roller coasters because I would love to have a little roller coaster riding buddy! :)
We had a great time with Nammie, and we always love her visits! Always a great way to end the summer!
