There was only one school that got flooded in Harvey, and it happened to be our beloved school. We knew there was a ton of water around, but we really hoped there hadn't been too much water inside. Unfortunately, that was not the case. There was about 3 feet of water throughout the school. Everything was ruined. Teachers were allowed in to try to salvage what they could, but there was not much to save at all. As a former teacher, I can't imagine what it would be like to lose all your supplies and special items that you have collected from the kids throughout the years. It was devastating to everyone!
As they say, "after the storm, the sun always shines" and it did! We had to move to a new school, since ours was a total loss. Luckily, by some miracle, there was a completely empty elementary school just a couple miles down the road. We all got to stay together! It was a different building, but the same smiling faces. The teachers and staff did an amazing job getting the entire school ready in just a few short days. The district did a wonderful job making us feel welcome in our "new" school. They put up a new sign and called us, "Moore Elementary of Jones Road." The entire community came together and donated so many supplies and books that we couldn't even store them all. It was completely overwhelming and completely amazing. Donations just kept on coming in day after day!
