4th of July in Corpus Christi

I was really feeling like we needed a getaway, so at the last minute, we decided to go to Corpus Christi for 4th of July weekend. We first booked a yacht to stay in that was docked at a marina, which I thought would be really cool. Unfortunately, the owner called us and told us that the air conditioning was broken, so we had to cancel. Luckily, I found another condo that was available for a reasonable price. I couldn't believe there was anything available for the holiday weekend! We planned on staying at the condo for two nights and a hotel for two nights. When we got to the condo, we were a little surprised at how run down it was, and we were even more surprised at how ridiculously tiny it was! It was probably the smallest place I have ever been in that had a kitchen, living room, and bedroom. The girls kept saying, "This place is tiny!" It was right on the beach, and in a pretty busy part of town, so the location was good. We went to the beach for a bit, then hung out at the pool before heading to dinner.

The next day, we went down to North Padre Island National Seashore to try to avoid some of the crowds. The beach was much nicer down there, so we stayed there for the day. Dad didn't have anything going on that weekend, so he decided to fly down and join us. We met him for dinner that night, played around by the art museum, and then headed back to our tiny little place.

The next day we went down to the North Padre area again because it was a lot nicer there. We went to breakfast with Dad, shopped for souvenirs, and explored down there. The next day we visited the USS Lexington which was a huge aircraft carrier/museum, and we found a great place for dinner that everybody loved. We also stopped by Dad's hotel room, and we hung out there for a bit.

For our last day, we just stayed around the beach in front of our hotel. We pretty much set up shop for the day. The girls played, and we just relaxed. The ocean was perfect for them to play in because it was shallow for a long way out. Dad had to fly out that evening, and we just stayed out at the beach and waited for fireworks. It got pretty busy, but we had an awesome spot. The girls were tired of being out there, so I took them upstairs, gave them baths, and they stayed up in the room and watched TV until it was fireworks time. Cory and I stayed at the beach and just enjoyed the quiet :) We ordered pizza, and ate it on the beach. It was perfect. The fireworks started around 9:30, and it was an awesome show! They shot them off of the Lexington, and it was pretty cool to see the ship and the fireworks, and the reflection in the ocean. I loved it! It was a fun little getaway!
