First Day of Kindergarten and 2nd Grade!

Two in school! My little cuties on the way to the bus stop :)

The little Kindergartener...on her way to school.
Nothing wrong with a little dancing while waiting for the bus!
The 2nd grader is more serious.

The first day of school went pretty well. Everyone was a little tired, and even Kacy said as I was doing her hair, "I didn't think you were going to wake me up this early!" But, we had delicious pancakes for breakfast, and headed out to wait for the bus. Adilyn was super excited, and Kacy seemed excited and not too nervous. The bus came, and they got right on.
Brooke and I didn't know what to do with ourselves that day. We met Dana for lunch, and it was so weird to be together with one little kid total! We made our traditional "grade level" cake, and we waited for 3:30 to come. They both came off the bus pretty happy. They said that they had a good day, they had made some friends, and things had gone well. Kacy wasn't super excited about things, but she didn't seem too upset about anything either. Adilyn said that she was so happy to see her friends, but she was a little disappointed that none of her good friends were in her class. They had fun decorating their "K" and "2" cakes, and we sat around the table chatting about their day. It seemed like they both had a pretty good start to the year. We shall see how things go as the days and weeks and months progress!

Kacy's First Haircut

I am super cheap with certain things, and haircuts are one of those things. I have only taken Adilyn to a hair salon one time, and Kacy had never gone. Not sure many girls get their first "real" haircuts at age 5, but Kacy did! I took her to a Supercuts, because like I said, I'm cheap, and she doesn't really know the difference. She seemed to love it, but she really wanted it cut shorter and shorter as she said. I just couldn't bring myself to have her cut it short! It's just so beautiful and thick. But, anyway, she finally got her wish - a real haircut!

Going to Church

The girls went to VBS at Cypress Bible Church (where Kacy went to preschool), and they both really loved it. Adilyn really wanted to keep going, so she motivated us to start going to church on the weekends. We have really enjoyed it! The pastor is great, and we have really liked going. Well, all of us except Brooke. Hopefully, she will get used to it soon. She usually cries when we drop her off, but they always say that she stops pretty quickly. Adilyn has loved learning about being part of the children's church. Kacy has been okay, but she is mad that she is in the "baby" area. Kindergarten childrens' church meets in her old preschool classroom, so she thinks it's babyish. Poor girl! We look forward to continue going and being part of the church.

End of Summer Fun at Kemah

Mom came down for another fun week before school started. It's kind of become our tradition, and I love it! Everything is so empty, which makes it really nice. We decided to go to Kemah again, and we had a great time! Kacy loved riding the crazy spinning ride, and she made me ride it with her twice. Yikes! Adilyn had a great time on the big boat swinging ride, and Brooke loved all the rides she could get on, but I think the train was her favorite. She even got on one that was pretty intense for a little two year old, but she kept saying, "Like it, Mama, like it!" It was so nice just to be able to walk on the rides and not wait at all! We stayed for a really long time, and ended up just grabbing some food on the way home. The girls loved seeing the lights on all the rides. Another wonderful day of fun!

Fort Worth Summer Fun

I had to go up to Lewisville for some work meetings, so I decided to take the girls with me. Mom was going to watch them on Thursday and Dad was going to watch them on Friday. We stayed at Mom's new house for the first time. The girls had so much fun! There was a huge living/dining room with no furniture yet, so they loved running around in that space and having "shows" and cartwheel practice. They had a slumber party in Mom's room that night. Unfortunately, Brooke and Kacy woke up crazy early, so Mom had a long day with them. In typical fashion, she went out and about. They went to McDonald's for lunch, and ended up staying and playing there for almost three hours! They also played nail salon and did some crafts. Brooke took a nap, and then they went to dinner with Brandon. They had a great time! We went over to Dad's house, and spent the next night there. Luckily, they slept in better for him! He was brave, and took them to Chuck E. Cheese for the afternoon. They loved it! Saturday, we went to run some errands, and Mimi and Pops thought they would take the girls shoe shopping...they had NO idea what that would be like! Needless to say, they left with no shoes, a frustrated Mimi, and a tired salesperson. Sunday, we went over to Becky's house to swim and celebrate Maren's 13th birthday. I didn't get any pictures all weekend long, but we had a fantastic weekend with everyone.

Kacy's Interesting Thoughts

I love the way this girl thinks! Lately, she has been coming up with some great thoughts and questions.
"I wasn't very good at playing the Wii before because I just didn't understand the concept, but now I understand the concept very well."
"It's so weird, my tattoo came off randomly!"
"This meat is too meaty."
"Look at my opportunity!"
"Sometimes when I eat a chip, it feels chippy in my heart."
"Yeah, just recently I have learned about that."
After hearing that Mother Nature might not be an actual woman, she said, "Why have you waited all these years to tell me this?!?!"
She also likes to say that things are 100%. 100% true, 100% right, 100% no

Performing Arts Camp

The girls did a Performing Arts camp a the Y, and it was fantastic! I love most everything that the YMCA's dance program does, but this was the best. Adilyn and Kacy went for three hours a day, and they learned some cheers, dances, and songs. At the end of the week, they had a 30 minute performance of all that they learned. It was adorable! They both finally learned how to do cartwheels, so that was a fantastic accomplishment! I attribute it to the magic of Ms. Brenda. My favorite was the little "Annie" song that they same and acted out. Kacy was the youngest there, but she hung in there. Adilyn did great, and was very proud of herself. I love all the Y that offers us :)
